How to check a company's VAT registration

Companies that are operated from or do business in countries that use a Value Added Tax, such as those of the European Union, will probably have a registered VAT number. Checking a VAT number provided by a particular company to make sure it does indeed belong to that company is now easy to do online.

Follow the link in "Resources" to the European Commission's website.

Enter the required data. To check a company's VAT number, you must provide the valid number of a company.

Click "Verify." If the VAT number is valid, the site will display information on its owner. If it isn't, contact the representative who gave you the VAT number with your concerns.
