How to Find Previous Property Sale Prices

Finding out the previous property sales price shows you what the previous owner purchased the house for, and you can compare that number to what the new sales price is of the property. You can also estimate how much work the previous owner put into the property to justify the current price of the property. You can find out the previous property sales price by checking the past tax records and researching online property profiles on different websites.

Visit the state website where the home is located. For example, visit the State of Tennessee website (see References). Locate and click on the "Property Sales and Tax" section of the website.

Click the "County" drop-down box and click the county where the property is located. Click inside the "Address" field and type the address where the property is located.

Press "Search" and look at the "Sales Information" section to locate the previous sales price for the property.

Visit a website such as Zillow or Trulia (see References) to find the previous sales price for the property. If you visit the Zillow website, click in the "Find Home Values and Listings" field.

Type the address of the property you seek. Click the "Go" button. Scroll down to the "Price History" section and locate the previous sales price for the property. If you visit the Trulia website, click the "Recently Sold" tab.

Click the "Location" field and type the address of the property. Click "Search." View the previous sales price of the property.
