How to track my tax refund check
If you are one of the lucky taxpayers who doesn’t have to write a check to the Internal Revenue Service after you’ve completed your federal income tax return, you’ve either broken even or are receiving a federal income tax refund. Federal income tax refunds are given to taxpayers that have overpaid their taxes during the tax year, which are either directly deposited into the bank account of the taxpayer or mailed as a paper check.
Check the status of your federal income tax refund online. Click on the “Where’s My Refund” link on the main page of the Internal Revenue Service website (see Resources).
Enter the information that is required for tracking your refund, which is your Social Security Number, filing status and the amount of your federal tax refund. Click the “Submit” button.
View the results of your federal income tax refund status. Keep in mind that the IRS states that results are not typically available regarding refund status until 72 hours after electronically filed returns are received and three to four weeks after paper returns have been received.
