After you have sent a money transfer using Western Union, you may find that you need to change the recipient. You can do this as long as the money transfer hasn't been paid to the original recipient yet.

Gather the following information from the paperwork you received when you requested the money transfer: the money transfer control number, the recipient's name and country of residence, the amount of money transferred and the transfer date.

Call Western Union customer service at 1-800-325-6000 and tell the customer service representative you need to change the receiver's name on your money transfer.

Give the information to the customer service representative and write down any confirmation information the representative gives.


Only the sender can change the receiver's name on a Western Union money transfer. There may be cases in which Western Union issues a refund and asks the sender to issue a new money transfer.
