When you walk into a bank to open a new account, one of the first things you will be asked is to produce two forms of identification. If you don't have these, you are unable to open an account. There is a way around this. You can open an account online without an ID but will need to have a Social Security Number.
Search online for a bank with which you want to open an account. There are many options of online banks and brick-and-mortar banks that have online services. Some examples for online accounts are ING, Chase, Wells Fargo and eTrade.
Click on the tab that says "Open a new account" or a similar phrase. This will take you to a page that lists the various types of accounts you can open. You will have the option of opening a savings, checking, retirement or business account. Select the one that applies to you and press the "Open account" tab.
Enter your personal information as required. This will include your name, contact information, e-mail address and Social Security Number. Follow the screen commands to work through the entire application.
Print the confirmation of your account application when you have completed the screen commands. This should also have an address to which to send your check.
Endorse your check "For deposit only" with your account number on the back. Some banks are more flexible regarding how you can make your initial deposit: PayPal, cashier's check, money order or endorsed paycheck. Never send cash as you cannot trace it.
Make a copy of the deposit and the paperwork for your records. Enclose the paperwork and initial deposit in the envelope. Address the envelope and place the postage on it.
Put the envelope in the mail and check your account balance online in three to five days.
