How to Report VAT Fraud

A value added tax (VAT) is charged and collected by businesses on goods and services in the U.K. Her Majesty's Revenue & Customs (HMRC) is in charge of tax collection and regulation.

When reporting tax fraud, it is reported to HMRC. Evading payment of VAT, charging too much VAT or charging VAT on non VAT items are all forms of VAT fraud that should be reported for investigation.

Check if the VAT registration number of a business is valid by calling the National Advice Service on +44-845-010-9000. VAT receipts are required to have a nine-digit VAT number that can be checked through this hotline.
