How to Stop PayPal From Taking Money From a Bank Account

Purchasing items with a PayPal account requires you to either have money already in your PayPal account or a backup source of funding such as a bank account or credit card. PayPal takes money from your backup funding when you do not have the necessary money in your PayPal account. Removing your bank account is the only way to prevent PayPal from taking money out of your bank account when you purchase items without the necessary funds in your PayPal account.

Sign into your PayPal account.

Click the "Profile" button and then "Add or Edit Bank Account."

Click the "Remove" button under your bank account. Confirm your decision to remove the bank account.

You will be unable to use PayPal to purchase anything without a bank account or credit card as backup funding sources unless you already have money in your PayPal account.
